It’s also available on all major platforms, and features plain-text XML files for easy navigation. Best virtualization software. Some time in 1953, instruments were ink stamped on the headstockback with 5 or 6 digit numbers, the first indicating the year, the following numbers are production numbers. The production numbers run in a consecutive order and, aside from a few oddities in the change over years(1961-1962), it is fairly accurate to use them when identifying solid body instruments produced between1953 and 1961. Examples of this system:4 2205 = 1954 614562 = 1956In 1961 Gibson started a new serial number system that covered all instrument lines. The second type of serial numbers used started with an Aprefix and ran from 1947 to 1961. The first number is A 100.YEAR LAST #1947 A 13051948 A 26651949 A 44101950 A 65951951 A 94201952 A 124601953 A 174351954 A 18665YEAR LAST #1955 A 219101956 A 247551957 A 268201958 A 288801959 A 322851960 A 356451961 A 36150When production of solid body guitars began, an entirely new serial number system was developed.Though not used on the earliest instruments produced (those done in 1952), a few of these instruments have3 digits stamped on the headstock top. https://uilxbm.weebly.com/gibson-dobro-serial-number-decoder.html.

Classic Homeworld & Homeworld 2 seem to work without issue, but Homeworld and Homeworld 2 remastered both launch to black screen before crashing. I've tried making them run in compatibility mode for Windows 8, but that didn't work. Wouldn't be the first time that Windows 10 has let somebody down. However, I don't think that Windows 10 is the problem. It might be an issue with steam, I would recommend re-downloading the game by going into your steam library, right clicking on 'Homeworld: Remastered Collection' in the left menu, and choosing 'Delete Local Content.'

The original version of Homeworld has some notable differences from the Remastered version (which runs on the HW2 engine), so some may want to play the original. It is old, however, and can be difficult to run well. As it happens though, I have been playing through the original, non-remastered, Homeworld and Cataclysm over the last months, so I've already done much of the searching and testing needed to run them in higher resolutions and without crashes. Assuming the version included here doesn't already include these steps (I'm running an old CD version), here's how:
1) Make a shortcut for homeworld.exe, right-click it and go into Properties. Add the following arguments to the Target line, without the quotes: '/triple /enable3DNow /enableSSE /disableAVI /noglddraw /safeGL'. You should end up with something along the lines of 'D:GamesWinHomeworldhomeworld.exe /triple /enable3DNow /enableSSE /disableAVI /noglddraw /safeGL', varying according to your install directory.
2) Right-click the homeworld executable (homeworld.exe) and go into Properties -> Compatibility. Check the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' box and set the compatibility mode to 'Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)'. Then check the 'Run this program as an administrator' box. Leave everything else unchecked.
3) Run Homeworld from the shortcut you created, and go to the Options -> Video menu. Set the rendering system to 'Default OpenGL', max out other settings (Palette Pool, Detail Threshold, Effects, Number of Effects), but don't touch the resolution. We'll be handling that with through the registry next.
4) Quit Homeworld, and run RegEdit. Find/navigate to the location 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSierra On-LineHomeworld' (might be different in the GOG version - if so, please let me know and I'll edit it). Here, you can edit the screen height and -width manually, and the game will use these settings even if it does not allow you to pick them from the in-game options. For 1080p gaming, set screenHeight to '1080' and screenWidth to '1920', making sure to select Decimal instead of Hex in the editor. Substitute whichever resolution you run in, if not 1080p. If you were unable to select 32-bit colour depth in-game, you can also select it here through the screenDepth setting (again, use Decimal). Source for registry hack.
5) Run Homeworld through the shortcut you created. You should now be playing in widescreen, crash free, and with the best possible texture and effect quality attainable without mods.
For anyone who owns Cataclysm (which isn't part of this package, sadly), the above steps might not be necessary, as in my experience it is far more forgiving than the original Homeworld. Nonetheless, if you do have trouble, the same steps apply.
[Note] If you own a version that does not come with the 1.05 patch pre-installed, install that before doing any of the above steps. Without the patch, the game may not be able to support resolutions above 1600:900. The patch is available from Here.

You might want to make it a bit clearer if you mean the original 1999 release, or the Classic version from the Remastered bundle, since the original 1999 release doesn't work at 1920x1080, the maximum is 1600x900 (or 1600x1200 if you have a 16:10 monitor). If you try 1920x1080 on the original release, the game will just display on the left half of the screen and be unplayable.
The instructions here are useful and they directly apply to Cataclysm as well, but since Cataclysm is only available from the original release, my point above stands for it as well: only 1600x900 works.

Actually, the version I have IS the 1999 version. It just needs the 1.05 patch to work. I was assuming the GOG Classic version would have this included, so I didn't mention it. I suppose I should add a note about that. The instructions here are useful and they directly apply to Cataclysm as well, but since Cataclysm is only available from the original release, my point above stands for it as well: only 1600x900 works.

Thanks for clearing up. :) I should note that my advice was based on 1.05 version as well, though it may vary based on exactly which copy of the game you buy (Sold Out version doesn't seem to like anything above 1600x900 for example).

Now that's really odd. The 1.05 patch directly replaces the executable, so it should supercede any version differences from outlets. This calls for investigation: The homeworld.exe in my copy of the patch is dated 27-03-2000, and the original installer is dated 15-09-1999. How does this compare with yours? I hate inconsistencies like this, but I've had to wrangle too many boot discs back in the DOS days to be surprised by them heh.
[Edit] Attached a screenshot of it at 1080p showing the patch level as well as an in-mission shot of my fleet, alongside this thread on my 2nd screen. It really does work :) The only issue is that the pause icon is offset partially off the screen (does not happen to the actual interface, which is right where it belongs).

I may have to try this with Cataclysm as I had a hard time getting it to work in Windows 7 64-bit. Had no problems running the same game in Windows 10. I found it as a loose jewel case - no box or manual - at a local thrift store. Aside from TotalBiscuit's 'My Thoughts on Homeworld Remastered' video, it was my introduction to the Homeworld franchise. Remasterd collection showing up here was definitely an instabuy. =)

Edit to add link to TB's video.
To run Cataclysm, you should install the 1.01 patch (available from the same location as the Homeworld 1.05 patch I linked in the first post), then do steps 1-3 the same way as for Homeworld. For step 4, the Cataclysm registry entries will be elsewhere, but off the same Sierra On-Line node as the original's.Remasterd collection showing up here was definitely an instabuy. =)
